EOS announced on October 27 that its AMCM unit is delivering an AMCM M 8K large-format metal additive manufacturing system to Kratos Defense & Security Solutions. The machine will be installed at Kratos's hypersonic payload integration facility in Odon, Indiana, supporting the U.S. Department of War's MACH-TB hypersonic test program, for which Kratos is prime contractor.
The M 8K offers an 800×800×1,200 mm build volume and eight 1.2 kW high-power lasers, with integrated thermal management, gas flow control, filtration, and in-process monitoring aimed at keeping large, complex metal parts accurate and consistent build to build. It was developed for space and defense work.
MACH-TB 2.0 is designed to enable frequent, affordable flight tests of hypersonic technologies; Kratos won the program in January 2025 under a contract valued at up to 50 million, 68,000-square-foot facility completed ahead of schedule in July 2026 can prepare up to six hypersonic payloads at once and is expected to support over 100 high-tech jobs in its first phase. Neither party disclosed the printer's price or production start date.
"The M 8K was built for exactly these kinds of applications — large, complex parts where scale, precision, and process reliability all matter," said Martin Bullemer, managing director of AMCM. The deal underscores large-format metal AM's deepening role in defense hypersonic manufacturing.
